"Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, 'Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you.' "- Isaiah 35:3-4
This past week has been quite a test for James and I. We went to the doctor for his knee, and the doctor believes that James has torn his ACL and has definitely sprained his MCL (not the restaurant). The doctor was not really for sure if he had torn his ACL because the area was too sensitive to be examined; whenever the doctor would lightly touch it, Jim's knee would automatically tense up. In order to fully diagnose a torn ACL, he would need to conduct an MRI, which are not cheap. James and I discussed it, and we agreed that the cost would not be completely unreasonable for our budget. However, as we were in the process of scheduling the MRI, we received a phone call from Jim's sister explaining that she had quit her job. Since Kelly had to quit her job, this left James without a job as well. In this past few months James went from having two jobs to none. Unfortunately, James is going to have to wait for his MRI.
Many thoughts went through both of our heads as to how to fix this situation. After the shock wore off, we both knew that God could get us through this. We knew that this task would not be easy, and we both knew that it would take serious reflection to determine the best course of action. We were wondering whether I should get a job? Should James wait until he's no longer limping to apply at a physically demanding job? Should James go back to school and get a criminal justice degree along with a job?
Currently James and I have decided that he will go to school for his criminal justice degree, and he's going to start looking at various places. He's going to apply at a nearby jail, as planned from earlier this year, as soon as his knee does "repair" itself. We're going to wait and see if these plans work out before I start applying at jobs. James and I both agreed that we would try to make sure that I could concentrate on schoolwork, but we both want to ensure our financial survival as well.
