Towards the end of 2012 after much reflection, Jim decided that he wanted his New Year's resolution to be to not drink pop for an entire year. Being an avid drinker of soda, I wasn't passionate about this idea. Jim eventually asked me if I would participate in this resolution too. I decided to support Jim in this endeavor. I knew it would be hard for him to abstain from pop if it was in our home. It made sense financially, and it is also a healthier option. So on New Year's Eve of 2012 we drank a ton of Dr. Pepper!
We didn't drink any pop throughout the year. It actually wasn't that hard. I replaced pop with coffee and tea.lol. It didn't get rough until Thanksgiving. It felt like every person in our family was drinking pop. It was very easily accessible in coolers. It is a lot easier to not have a craving for pop if you are not around it. Out of sight, out of mind. Ever since Thanksgiving I had been wanting it more and more.
On New Year's Eve I went to the store and purchased two, two liters of Dr. Pepper. At midnight we both poured a glass. The sound of the two liter being opened was magical. We both took big gulps. We both immediately started coughing from it burning our throat. We also complained about how sugary it was. I didn't even finish my glass. The next morning, however, we tried again. It tasted a lot better when drinking it with a meal.
I don't think we'll buy pop and bring it into our home anymore. I do think that when I'm out to eat that I will occasionally get a pop to drink. It's hard to believe that we did it!
